The JVTA Strikes at Iran

20-Mar-2014 C-CAT spent over 8 years leading the campaign for the passage of the Justice for Victims of Terrorism Act (JVTA). The legislation, passed by Parliament in 2012, has just hit its first state target – the Islamic Republic of Iran. Iran is the globe’s preeminent state sponsor of terrorism.

An Ontario judge has ordered the seizure more than $7 million worth of bank accounts and property belonging to the Islamic regime. The historic ruling will turn over the assets to victims of Hizbullah and Hamas and other militant groups that Iran has bankrolled. The decision represents a groundbreaking victory for an array of terror victims, including Dr. Sherri Wise, a Vancouver dentist who was badly burned in a 1997 Jerusalem suicide bombing. (http://www.cbc.ca/m/news/#!/content/1.2580632). The ruling comes as the sanctions against Iran continue to crumble under the protective umbrella of negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 regarding Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons technology.

C-CAT once again wishes to thank its friends and supporters for staying the course. Change of this sort takes time and perseverance, and none of this would have been possible without your ongoing assistance, and the backing of parliamentarians who voted the JVTA into law.

There is much more to come on this file – we will keep you posted.

On Behalf of C-CAT and the Terror Victims it Represents: Thank You!
